Default After all the planning - ya Just gotta have faith

First - INSPIRATION

Now the planning - make some sketches, calculate some measurements, think and measure twice.

Next - Materials - Beg - Barte - Swap - Buy

Next - laydown some lines ..... I like to use masking tape - easy to draw on and even easier to pull up and re-do

OK - so ya have it all cut up .... and then it hits ya - what in the H$(( did I just do - took a perfectly good cab and made it into scraps. HAve faith probie - it will work out.

Next step is to clean up the cut edges - sand a little on the glue surfaces - nothin to heavy just a little rouch up...

Then start glueing togther - use scrap pieces to "plate" the joint - this way if yo crash it shouldn't break as easy.....

Notice I used some other pieces to hold the base square - and made sure I was on a flat surface - we don't want the cab to be twisted...

I used .010 styrene on the joint for the sides - this allows it to be flexed into position later - theyre angled inward on an IH

.... more to come.....

After seeing your build in person at Indy, the pictures just do not do it justice. Truely outstanding work!

some more shots of that build I did last year

add some filler strips - her e i used round tube cut length wise in 1/4's

anything to help hold the filler in place...

Don't let the pictures fool ya - I layed nearly 4 layers of filler and then hand sanding each back off to get the curves, radius' and fillets just the way I wanted.

Hope this helps and encourages other fun builds!

I started with Tamiya green filler putty - ddn't like it
- costly for the amount you get
- resin leaked out from the actual filler - probably cause I didn't squeeze it out and hand mix

I switched over to staight old bondo - not sure this was a great choice as it seemed to shrink a tiny bit then after I had finally painted it - this could also be the primer an dthe top coat issues though

Here's a pic of here today

Yeah, I agree. This has to be one of the most ambitious rebuilds of a Tamiya that I have seen. It sure looks like an IH! I used to think these old trucks were ugly, but now they have a look that I can't ignore! You sure pulled it off. This project turned out awesome! Not that I don't like the colors you painted your IH, but I sure like the color combo of the one in your avatar! Now that thing looks sweet. Got any more pictures of both the 1:1 trucks and your model?

Thank you for referring me to this thread. I've never worked with anything this scale. But if I do, I'll be hitting you up. Your ref is a Youtube favorite. The 400BC runs perfect in that truck.

Izzy that reference truck is VERY close to the 1:1 I told you I had at one time only in a different color scheme, same length same exhaust and mine had a 400BC also. Beautiful!
