Mammoth, what to do with this junk yard find?

No remote control but it looks like the truck is all there, just the eyes of a newbie looking. The bed is loose and plastic slot for dumping is busted. Rear ends seem to be ok, I tried turning them and they act like a normal limited slip axle on a real car.

good find, i never have that kind of luck. id get a pdf of the instructions and do a complete
rebuild and hoppup if i'm right i think that the same as the juggernaut-2 as far as frame and drive train

Looking on Tamiya site, unit has been discontinued. I am missing the single channel controller for the dump bed and the two channel for steering and forward/reverse. This is my first "rodeo" on RC hobby works. I'm checking out controllers, at least 3 channel. RC3S is a cheap startup unit in the 40-50 $ range. It might run the whole truck, not all the fancy bells and whistles like I see on here, but drive and dump is a starting point.

That is a sweet tipper, I would like to build a 1:10 IH 350 Payhauler! But I'm thinking for a greenhorn, maybe I should just figure out the electronic side before I go batshyte nuts on an all out build. How hard is the electronic part of this hobby?

I am starting to get to the electronic part with my madil yarder build, and it can be confusing with 4 different drums, tracks, swivel etc. Spend time looking for information with this forum being a great resource and go for it!

wiskybilt-glad you got your issues figured out with P.B. This will make a nice R/C conversion. Electronics can be intimidating to some people but the advances made in the past years have made it very easy. Just do your research and remember the k.i.s.s. method on your first model.

I've been looking through some of these threads, I still not decided on a brand or number of channels. I just don't want to hook up the wrong tx and blow something up or let out the grey magic.

Thanks, it was mostly an accident to get it to work. I hope I have the accident the next time.

Controller showed up today. Thanks Joe for the explanation of how you hooked yours up. Seems really simple now, but it was a first for me. Helped me to jump the fence and get it done. I also found this video on how to bind it and it goes over the control setup pretty good to.

I think I'm going to like this unit for starter money. Truck $100.00 and controller $41.00. I'll have to figure out how to make the bed lift.

Thanks Bigford, it has a lift on the bed, I just haven't figured out how to activate it yet. I did drive it a little with some old NiCad 7.2 batt I had in an old 27hz crystal machine someone give to me.

I don't think the stock lifting set up is strong enough to lift heavy loads
I could be wrong that is why I suggested the firgelli's

Yes, the Cat 789C is my conversion. Still not up and running as I've had trouble finding the right seals for the hydraulic cylinder I built for it. If go to this link you can down load the manual for the truck and that will help figure out how to get the box working. I believe that Joe still uses the original lift system in his and has very little problems with it and it can lift a full box. If your talking about the plastic sliders on the box being broken they're probably not as there open in the middle so you can get the box on and off the truck. The build manual will show how it works.

Thanks Rob. I see they are made that wsy. I thought they were broke until I looked at them a little closer and they are both the same. I downloaded the manual. I figure the hoist system will work. I just need to learn how to engage it. It's some combination of how you turn the steering to make it kick in the "+1" controller setup.

What are the diminsions you need for the jack seals?

Bigford, I've seen those linear servo Jacks on several builds, they must work pretty good. How much power do they have compared to the hydraulic setups?

you cant compare the two. but with the actuator it plugs right into the receiver
and wont leak fluid all over the place
