Re: Bell Loader
OMG, I used to work on these in the New Zealand Forrest's!
They were the older air cooled Deutz powered ones, 220A and B series I think, C series went to water cooled Cummins. they used to work next to Madill swing yarders and help pull the tree's over the landing and also they were pretty good with static delimbers, normally an apprentice's machine, they would graduate to a Skidder if they were good on the Bell. don't see them much these days with Harvesters hanging on the end of a 35 or 45 Tonne excavator doing most of the work and a second Excavator (swing machine)loading out. mostly in Hill country where feller bunchers etc. cant operate. |

"funniest thing I've seen", (these things are hard to start, you have to hold each pedal in the middle so the pumps neutralise and don't pump any oil, easier said than done because the pump wants to swash up as it starts, so you have this in mind) now back to "funniest thing I seen with these, I was on top of a hill with the crew boss talking about a Harvester repair and the young lad was sent down to jump start the Bell with the boss's Truck, it was a nice Silverado so he hooked it up, stood next to the bell, not in it like he should have been and proceeded to start it, and it did start, well done lad! park brake on these is a solenoid and the switch was on (brake off) so as soon as it started it got power and then oil and then the rest is history, the bell did three 360's with the jockey wheel going over the Boss's truck each time until one of the other boys jumped in and pulled the stop.......he was braver than me but he swings chainsaws for a living, it looked great from up on the hill and the look on the boss's face..........priceless |
