Talking TheStuffz 8x8 Twin Steer Tandem (lots of pictures)

So I have decided that 6x6 was too easy of a build and that I need to get myself into something even more complicated lol

So I decided to go 8x8. I had a tamiya TLT1 that was not getting used. I bought it thinking that I would keep it stock and that it would be cool. Then I got a clodbuster and well... nothing beats a clodbuster lol (bowtie chevrolet box art to!)

So the axles came off, I had ordered another TLT half and pinons to make one axle a through axle. Well I got a little too ambitious with the dremel and kinda took off more then I should have. oh well. $5 mistake I guess..

I tried to use my globeliner frame rails I have from the original globe but I decided they were just too short..

So I ditched the idea of using the globeliner springs and went and found the longest stock rails i could find. That turned out to be the Cascadia frame rails. Yay using newest truck parts for a custom build right? lol

I also didn't like the springs I was using. just didnt sit right to me. they were the topcad springs. pictured is a stock semi spring on top of the top cad spring.

I decided to keep it nice and evenly spaced by ordering another rear suspension setup and using that for the front axles. Works for the rear so I figured why not. And it does do a good job at holding the axles where I want them. There will be some trimming needed to get them to articulate a bit better.
I know it has 1.9's up front but thats all I have atm. **** i even stole the wheels off my flat bed for the rear for now..

I debated using a 3 speed cause semi joe had them on cheap enough... but atlas it doesnt fit. So it gets to go into another project...

So I robbed more parts. This was SUPPOSED to be the gear reduction I needed for the F350 truck but I think that really it wont be getting a tilt deck.. most likely it will become a flatdeck and haul *** doing it lol.

Only thing that scares me about this is that the pinion is a PRESS on style! no set screw. I know you guys thinking just drill one but I dont have a press at work so I just used a hammer and pressed on the pinion and if it fails then I will pull it and have a set screw put in.

So then I found a good place to set the motor/gear reduction. It will have good distance to the transfer case and it will not interfere with the front axles (unlike that 3 speed).

So now I have to figure out steering. I do have a turnbuckle thing from the High Lift chassis to use aswell. So I plan to get that and a side frame servo mount in place to get the steering done. Just a matter of where is best and what side is best etc. I'd really like it if others could post how they mount up their front steering setups for twin steer fronts etc.

lol bring some timmy's when you do!

I ordered some smaller stuff today. couple tanks and fenders etc. Having a heck of a time finding bumpers for this thing. has different holes in the back like the knight/aeromax have.. not sure if that is the same size as the euro trucks either...

Well not very productive day being I will have a couple off now so im slackin waiting for parts lol.

Had a couple drive shafts laying around so I decided to give it a shot and see what it would do.

So remember 14:1 planetary to a 2:1 transfer case then to the axles. This is flat out hooked direct to a battery.

I was wondering about using rear suspension on the front end! Glad to see you figured it out. I like where this is going!
Cheers, Neil.

Looking to be a sweet beast. I think most of us have robbed, uh I mean borrow parts from other builds But sometimes when we do another great idea might hit us and we say I should have done that in the first place. I am curious how this turns out.

No updates. More of undates lol.

Wedding in July took up most of my time and funds.. so i havent bought stuff in a long time now..

Since the EMES show is coming up soon, I am trying to get an end dump trailer going for the show. I robbed front suspension out of the truck, then i put the single front axle back in to be 6x6. Going to try to get it going as a 6x6 with the old sound and light unit.

I got inspired last week and got this far in a day. Need more cab parts etc. maybe some tundra springs as the topcad ones are much longer...

the gear reduction was an Ebay special. got that and the pintle hitch and think something else all from the same guy.

Unfortunately my laptop crapped the bed so im on my ipad. sucks but better then nothing. atleast i have a bluetooth keyboard for it!
