Default Excavators\wheel loader\dumptruck for a newbie

I am looking for a metal excavator that can actually dig like the real thing. I have a place out back that is full of dirt that I would love to make into a mine or contruction site.

I have had my eye on Huina 1580 V4 or TongLi 580 1/14th scale Excavator with the matching wheel loaders from Huina and TongLi.

Then a american type of dump truck.

Any suggestions or hints in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Very excited to get into the construction RC world!

I am guessing by looking at other threads here, a RTR product is not what these forums are for. I am new to the hobby and dont have a machine shop to build my own. I will just lurk around and see what information I can find. Thanks for letting me join to at least lurk and drool at the high end pieces of art you all create.

RTR can be pretty nice, but don't make for very good build threads. Unfortunately construction isn't usually cheap to get into.

I haven't gotten to gone hands on with them, but i wouldn't be scared off with upgrading those. Balance expectations, you're not going to be digging out a basement without hydraulics. But it should to broken dirt and rehandling pretty well

I know several guys in the last year or so have gotten the metal Huina 1580 excavators and done some upgrades and repainting. The servo screw-drive upgrade seems to be a big help.

The huina 1573 on road dump looked pretty cool, but i'd missed out on getting to see it run at our last meet.

There are a few small companies making upgrade kits for Bruder excavators, dozers, and stuff... plus a couple that will even build them into RTR for you

Bruder also has a nice Mack dumptruck that can be upgraded, or a lot of guys use it to rebody Tamiya truck chassis.

I've thought about the huina 1580 and 1573. something cheap-ish to start with and see what upgrades will be possible (probably first the radio) then in a year or two I can hand it over to my son...
Then again, like jack van suggests; tamyia truck modded to fit a dump box is also something I've thought about.

Check out this excavator buyers guide. Alot of great information on the various manufacturers. Keep in mind, in this hobby, you get what you pay for.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my 1580. It is a great start in the hobby. Next I plan on building a Tamiya Globe liner modified with a dump kit.

The hobby engine crawler is another one that is fun to modify without spending a ton.
