Default Bruder Truck-Mounted Flatbed

Had one of the Bruder lowboys collecting dust out in the garage and had given some thought to stretching it and updating with some rubber tires and new wheels but decided to go a different route instead...

The beginnings of a flatbed body is what I came up with thus far....

Oh, and I apologize for not having many pics of the first stages of this build with detailed pics of how I reinforced the center section, but rest assured she'll handle some decent weight on her back while still being on the light side with just plastic being used.

As you can see the truck on which I decided to conduct this "experiment" of a build isn't even finished yet itself....so of course you can see my priorities are in order, LOL.

But I figure it's a fun project to get the mind warmed up for some more building here and there.

More updates to come, thanks for stopping by.

Sorry to report no major progress lately, just a few odds and ends here and there.

Added some crossmembers on the underside to help distribute the load and reduce pressure points on the plastic sheets. Plus some makeshift brackets and a slightly modified King rear crossmember were put together to help hold this girl on the chassis...

Started to work on covering up that mess of a splice I attempted with some misc. styrene sheet and other pieces that were needing a place to rest...

And began playing around with some load ideas both for the fun of it and to see what kind of weight could be put on this thing seeing as it's held together with screws, glue, plastic-weld, and some hopes and dreams...

See you in another month with another update. (let's hope not anyway)

Thanks for looking,
-Alex

Thanks, yeah that's sort of my goal on most everything.....although I'll admit in some areas on the underside it might seem 'cobbled' here and there...sometimes "pretty" just isn't an option when re-inforcing with styrene. But for the most part it's clean and strong because of that.

It looks good.

The only time you should be concerned about the underside, is if your trucks spends most of it's time on it's side, or belly up. Lol...That's my view on it.

Though I guess if you went to town on painting and detailing the chassis, because you want to park it on top of a mirror, then I guess you have an excuse. Unless you intend to make a tilt bed, or just want it detailed. Either way works. LOL

I can't wait to see it done.

True, very true.....I was considering the option of a screw drive tilt bed and in that case I guess it would make sense to tidy up the underside. But since I'm not I guess I don't have much to worry about there.

Yes, I have to apologize for such a long delay in a finish. But the weather here is starting to cool down a bit (good thing) and we are getting away from the humidity for a while. Who knows, painting and detailing may be just around the corner.

Had actually given that some serious thought Craig...maybe in the future.

I've thought about getting one of those Bruder 963 CAT track loaders....that'd look neat behind it I guess.

Not sure yet on color.....would love to pull off a neat yet simple two-tone job, probably a dark red almost maroon for the cab and hood with a black for the fenders.....just so many neat color combos out there it's hard to decide. Will have to do some more Googling for ideas I spose.

Oh, and thank you.
