Default Tractor Tires?

Where can you buy tractor tires that are not hard rubber like a toy has but not large super singles either? Got to be a way to have row crop duals without giving up traction to hard rubber.

I wonder if you make a mold and then recast them with the a proper durometer urethane that Tom has used on his Cat 777 rock truck.

Craig, back in the day, when RC rock crawling was in it's infancy, a lot of guys sucessfully narrowed up all sorts of tires. The idea was that a narrower tire gave better performance, due to a narrower track width. It might sound like a hack job, but I saw many Clodbuster tires narrowed down sucessfully, and they looked good. Of course the rims had to be narrowed as well. One could simply cut the tires with an X-acto knife and then glue them back together at the center seam. Some would re-enforce the inside of the seam with a narrow strip of rubber, like a nike tube. Rims could chucked up in a lathe, or drill press, and then accurately sectioned, with the centers removed. Just rest the knife on a solid surface and hold it against the rims, while spins, so you get a straight cut. Then glue the rims back together, and there you go. Probably the best tire we have currently available for v-treaded ag tires in the Traxxas Stampede tires, which are about 4.75" tall. They work fine as is, for wide floaters, but I could definitely see them being narrowed up for duals. They are cheap too. They can fit on just about any standard 2.2 sized rim, but I'd guess a lot of guys would prefer a custom rim to better represent the part. For dual wheels, though, there are some rather plain 2.2 rims that are dished, with no holes or spokes in them, that would look pretty good. Maybe just add a little detail. Bolts for the hubs, or wheel weights, and no one would pick up on it.

Here's a cool video I found on narrowing tires.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OJOYmBxo88

And a written toturial for narrowing and reducing. Just pay attention to the narrowing.

Go to a farm toy show there are many different vendors offering a lot of aftermarket tires in softer compounds, sizes, and tread patterns.

I know barnhausen is sometimes not easy to reach, so you can try to order his products directly from this site : rc-machines.com

Here is another possible source : www.wachingers.de

Hope this helps

Great point Steve, I ordered tires from another German company and one tire I ordered was priced per pair and another tire was priced per single tire. So, I had to place a second order to get all the tires I needed.

Hi Claus!
I have also ordered some tires from dakotah toys...The "Trelleborg" are really nice, but seem to be too wide for your row crop project. Here´s another supplier:
http://www.formenbau-traenkl.de/Prod...gen-Reifen.php
(its a kind of copy of the BRUDER types, vou can order them in a soft version (25 shore) to get a good traction...I have them on my MF1155.
OR:
http://www.modellreifen.de/ ...go to "Bilder" ...
At this supplier you can choose the width and diameter...

regards
Frank

Craig, you might consider contacting Jason at the Pirate Farm Toys forum also. I know he molds and casts 1/16th tractor tires and probably other scales too. Not sure what his fee is, but may be worth dropping him a PM...
