Default Hyd oil

Just curious as to what oil everyone runs and what size container they were able to purchased it in? Is hydraulic jack oil from an auto parts store suitable?

I bought my hydraulic fluid at the local Cat dealer. Go with a 10WT hydraulic oil, doesn't have to be Cat.

Standard grade hyd oils work well. I have however switched over to canola oil. This was a result of blown hose in the house one evening. Difficult mess to clean up. Some of my play is indoors and oil leaks are a given at times. Regular house hold dish soap cleans up the canola oil. Cautionary tips on vegetable oil or canola oil. The water content laden in the oil will freeze and thus can cause damage. As well if not used regularly it will gum/gel up some. a little heat(hair dryer) will get things moving again. I usually change the oil after a unit sits more than 6 months.
