Default Moving KH Front Axle

I have read where many of you said you moved the front axle forward on your King Hauler.

I'm curious how you did this. New suspension, new springs, modified the existing springs? I assume you had to extend the steering arm from the servo?

Thanks,
Chris

The simplest way is to just mount the axle in front of the button on the stock spring. Gives you a little caster too. The other is to cut and bend the spring to shorten it. Depending on how short you go it may require cutting the other springs in the pack.

Sorry to change the subject, but why do people move the front axle forward on the King hauler, what do you gain by moving it forward?

As far as model operation, you don't gain anything. It's more about making the truck more prototypical to the 1:1 Pete or Kenworth. The steer axle set on all the tamiya trucks was more about being able to use the same spring on the front and rear suspension than representing a 1:1.

I just losen the u bolts, slide the axel in front of the spring retaining rivet, then tighten it down. I also like to remove 1 or 2 front springs so that the axel can articulate better.

The simplest way to move the front axle forward is to take a pair of needle nose pliers and put them in the front spring eye and roll it up moving the eye close to the center of the spring. It is very simple takes no time just make sure the both springs are the same length. Ed

Great question Up9018. That is one of the items on my action list for my Globeliner. Thanks for sharing the link Dreamweaver.
