Kranky,

Isn't all that plywood heavy? I thought of a way to lighten the transport boxes the tankers use, and you could benefit from it too.

Use the ply for the outer edges only, and then put a sheet of that corrugated plastic sheeting (like they use for signs) over top. A 4x8' is dirt cheap, and MUCH lighter than ply.

Hmmm, makes me think of another way to make the 'frame' idea neat: make it a curtain-sider, and the curtain becomes a display canopy for the trailer-box.

Another option, if you are friendly with local stores, is check out their dispolay signs they use ever week/two/whatever. Often they are heavy card, which is great for test-builds, but sometimes its actually styrene sheet or such. Ask about it. I snagged a shipping tube for their signs a while back when I needed to send some frame-rails by mail. Beat the $20 the PO wanted!

And are you going to make fold-down 'feet' so the trailer will double as a transport box as well, so she's not sitting on the suspension all that time?

Hmmm...

Seeing this makes me tempted to try to make some optional 'hardsides' for my Goldie when she arrives... (yea, I laid down the dinero for it!) Then again, I'll havta check how well my intended cargo would fit... Oh, now thats sneaky (* Sci-fi idea popped into head *)

Make sure ya prep the wood well Kranky, or it'll ruin your paint job. If ya want waterproof AND strength without fibreglas mess, try thinned epoxy:

Use 2-part HobyPoxy (or whatever brand), 45m set, or 2h if you're slow, and mix in equal parts as directions. ~Then~ add some Klenk's Epoxy Thinner (used for enamel refinishing on tubs) but only a few drops atta time, stirring in-between additions. When you have it down to paint consistancy, paint away. Use cheap disposable brushes, as cleaning is a "female-dog". I don't go any thinner as set time goes a bit wierd.

I use this on all my R/C boats, as it makes 'em practically indestructable (to the point you can rip out all interior framing!)

What scale is the truck?
Impressive build, trailer looks like heavy with all this plywood, maybee not so thick.
