That's a pretty nifty setup!

You're getting some great mileage out of that low dollar model with these different digging operations, great imagination.

How much runtime from a tank of water?

That's pretty sweet. So how well does the hobby engine hold and how well does it preform in you opinion?

Thanks, I haven`t had it very long so can`t really give a good opinion yet. The clutch was ratcheting when swinging crane left the other day took it apart but didn`t find anything wrong.
Operating it is very easy and it moves smooth.
Time will tell.

OV,
gotta ask ya about the jensen steam engine. did you build it from a kit or buy it ready to go? if you built it, was it hard? I've seen kits on fleebay and as a AMATURE machinist who just entered early retirement, im lookiing for simple things to cut my teeth on.

louie the steam engine is a factory made Jensen , you can buy all sorts on ebay.
As far as building, the boiler is the part that has to be done right so it`s safe.
Engines can be the simple oscillating type that are easy to build.
I suggest searching the web for model steam engine sites.

It's really cool set up how the Crane loads the Elevator and the Elevator load the barge.

Thanks Steve1503, after the dump truck gets here I`m going to rearrange the whole setup and put it on the ground.

I`m out of the steam realm with this now, I put the old Edison electric motor on it so it will run longer while I go dump the dump truck.
The motor speed is adjustable also , had to make a bigger pully on the elevator though.

Is the bucket elevator something you made from scratch? Where did the buckets come from?

I've been thinking for awhile about building a dirt leg to elevate dirt out of my basement, trucking it out has gotten too boring. And after a long day on the farm the last thing I want to do is more physical exercise walking up/down stairs b/c I can't see where the trk goes anymore from the basement. I want to just sit & dig.

Yes the wife and I built it, nothing fancy the chain and sprockets are from a old bicycle ,the buckets are just bent tin and welded to the chain.

Getting my little area set-up, added a retaining wall for a place to back the dump truck into if I want to load directly from the pile with the crane.

Ok, the plan is to load in one of the two loading places then take a lap through town then back up the ramp and dump back in the pile.
Truck won`t be here until middle of next week.
