Default King Hauler dump truck

I built this a few years back when Reg first started building these awesome dump boxes. I went for a Socal look when building it.

Here is a how this truck came to be. When I bought this kit I was saving up for my Premacon excavator so I very limited money to spend on it and tools to build it with. Everything custom, was first made with paper or cardboard then made from styrene.

I didn't like the wheelbase nor did I like the setback axle look of this kit so I moved the front axle forward.

My solution to the fender gap was to go with the Peterbilt 351 style fender. Again using paper to start so I got the shape right then cut styrene for the finished product.

Once customize one area its surprising what else you need to change to keep the look right. Because i lowered the fender i had to also lower the step and then the tanks and then the rear quarter fenders . Its subtle but almost every part of this truck has been modified somehow.

Here ive lowered the steps and added what will be a chrome bar joining the steps under the cab. And to make the frame look longer i played with the idea of placing a single fuel tank behind the cab.

I spent a lot of time making things from cardboard trying out different looks. Here i made full fenders and a square bumper.

No internet, I remember those days. Unfortunately I WASN'T into build things back then, all I was interested in was taking Sh!t apart to figure out how/why it worked. USUALLY those things NEVER went back together again, & the ones that did, NEVER did work quite right again.

Thanks Joe, this was built using very limited tools. A hacksaw blade , utility knife, one file, screwdrivers, sand paper, JB weld and that's about it.

What might take minutes with proper tools , took me a couple hours to make but i enjoyed it. And when its finished there is a feeling of satisfaction that makes it all worth while.

To make the bends in the visor i used a cutting board and the edge of the kitchen counter. The wife wasn't too happy about this method.
