On the real deal, does the center support brace sit directly above the lift axle or is it slightly off one way or the other? I don't have a good square side on picture of your real trailer to go from.

Re: Flat bottom half round trailer

just a touch forward of center line of lift axle

OK that's perfect Mark. I was hoping that was the case as it makes everything I've done so far line up better.

Re: Flat bottom half round trailer

People say that sometimes you need to go backwards in order to go forwards and that's what happened here. I ordered in a special sheet of softer aluminum to use on this and a couple of other builds because the length and sharpness of the bends are hard on my small sheet metal equipment. I was able to get the right grade of aluminum but not the desired thickness despite my efforts. Getting it was a gong show as the first sheet I ordered showed up heavily damaged and unusable other than for building cabs. The supplier ordered another sheet right away and a few days later it showed up but was also damaged slightly but usable(someone tried to use a forklift to lift a sheet off of the top and bent one side). Anyway, with the material being thinner than I wanted and soft I was not sure how it would work out. I bent up the tub for this and it was very easy to work with. Once bent I realized how easily it dents where it's flat and that it is no good for this trailer. After Xmas I bent up a new tub using regular material and I've spent a number of hours over the last few days working to get things back on track. It was tough to get it bent the same as the parts I had already made but after some swearing, sweating and struggling I got all the pieces fit and it's coming along.

I'm happy you like it Mark! It's my main focus right now so it should come together at a decent pace. Sorry for the delay but I really felt it wasn't good enough the way it was. Because of it's shape and size this thing will hold a ton of dirt:eek:. Best be careful not to overload it!

Keep it clean Mark....:p Yeah, maybe but for how many times?lol I can see 50# loads in this thing easy do to it's volume. It may very well dump that much but I'm not trying it!:cop: It looked like Ben and Alex had some pretty crazy loads on their trailers and they were dumping fine. Yours will hold almost a 3rd more though so it's hard to say. We are all guilty of overloading our stuff. If we kept within the scale DOT range nothing would ever break.lol

Not pretty crazy loads, but more like "PRETTY CRAZY OPERATORS" (Ben and Alex). But I guess I'll be joining them soon.:D

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not sure if my work is crazy good but It's definitely good to be crazy.

Another day in the life of a toy builder. I have never spent an entire day on a tailgate until today.lol Shooting for a realistic looking high lift style tailgate without the mechanics to make it lift. I'm not sure how it will function in real life but it looks OK I think.lol

OK good! I was thinking to myself "I hope he doesn't hate it cause he didn't say anything".lol I drilled the tail light holes, slots for tailgate latches and I'm about to see how to attach the spill plate. After that I will be moving on to the ladders.

What happened to the 1:1?

filters froze up. fuel guy left the hatch open on the fuel tank
a few weeks back and water got in. and with running low on fuel
i must have sucked up enough water to freeze up.

Re: Flat bottom half round trailer

Fuel guy bad!:cop:

A small update. Tail light holes drilled, spill plate lightly glued in place(might need to come up a bit?), and the front flap mounts made.

Yes it appears to be very close to the same width especially with the super single tires. It always wants to flop over to the right for some reason and I sometimes forget to straighten it out for pictures. I'm not sure how to go about making it turn the correct direction while being towed. It probably needs some soft springs pulling on it from side to side to keep it straight. It looks like there might be room to install a lift servo if you were so inclined to do so...

Thanks guys! I'm glad you are liking it Mark. Hopefully it serves you well.

Here's a little update. It doesn't look like much is happening but this trailer is eating up more time than I thought it would. I like how it's turning out though so I'm not grumpy yet.lol

I added some springs to the steer axle. They aren't super pretty but they are mostly out of sight and they keep things straight. I finally finished up the flaps and mounts as well as the gate latches. Next up will be the ladders and then the tarp...
