RCT&C Midwest Spring Meet

https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5264/...0c05c8ca_b.jpg

Got everything lined up to make this happen! Gonna be a blast. Here's more info:

-Please bring folding tables, chairs, and extension cords for setting up charging stations and the like. I'll bring all I have but it may not be quite enough.

-I intend to start on Saturday around 9am and go till we can't stay awake anymore. I will have worklights setup for night playtime.

-There is a portajohn at the field and the Mobil Gas Station is a couple minutes away if that's preferred.

-Again if there is enough interest I'll make sure a Radio Programming Seminar and Battery Charging/Storage Seminar happen.

-I'm hoping to have a model turbine jet fly so you guys can see that. Pretty awesome if you've never seen it.

-At this point I'm only know that a few people are coming to this. If you could please post up and let me know if you're coming that would be great. Entry fee will be based on number of participants but I'd like to keep it $20 maximum. (All money goes to our club for use of this facility. I would like to keep this an annual event.)

{I'll save this section for more info on the Hotel (ie if we can get a block with any discounts)}

Hotel options:
Best Western Monticello Gateway Inn
805 Iron Horse Pl.
Monticello IL 61856
217-762-9436
(Nice new modern/clean hotel w/pool)

Foster Inn
1414 N. Market St.
Monticello IL 61856
217-762-9835
(Cheaper option, I haven't looked at any reviews but have heard they recently remodeled all rooms. It's an old place but probably quite a bit cheaper. I'd be happy to look into this option for anyone if they want)

Camping:
You can camp at the field for no charge. Please see me before deciding where to park an RV or where to setup tents. Again there are no hookups for septic/water.

Clinton Lake State Rec Area
1751 Ranger Rd.
Dewitt IL 61735
217-935-8722
(About 30 minutes from the event location.)

Recommended Nearby Restaurants:
Filippo's Pizza (my personal favorite pizza)
Brown Bag Deli
Main Street Pub
3 Ravens
Dairy Queen
McDonalds
Hardees
Subway
El Toro
Monical's Pizza
(Red Wheel closest to field is not very good....neither is our Chinese place, you've been warned)

County Market is our grocery store in town.

Activities for kids:
Nick's Park (large wooden playground)
Railway Museum (right by the field)

Please try to get the word out about this event. I know we have a good number of guys on here that don't visit the board regularly.

I've flown with electric rc vehicles many times. The thing you have to be careful with is batteries. I've put them in checked luggage before and had to argue with TSA about them. I believe technically they're illegal to carry on even though laptops and other devices also have lipo batteries. As long as you package correctly there should be no damage if you check the box/case. Pelican cases are quite handy for this purpose.

You also have the option of shipping whatever you need to me and I'll bring it to the show for you. I suppose it's all a matter of if you trust the postal system or Airport baggage-handlers more. :D

Re: RCT&C Midwest Spring Meet

I thought the big issue with lipo is the temp drop in the cargo hold.

Hoping you'll have a good enough time to stay! Either way it will be fun to pick other guy's brains for project ideas/help.

Hope you can make it. I know how much moving can drain time/ambition.

Bummer, hope it goes well. I do not envy you for having to move. One of my least favorite things to do.

Who else can come out? Should I send out invites via PM to people or are they seeing this thread? Concerned by lack of response/interest so far.

4 Weeks out! Getting excited!

Lmackattack 05-22-2014 08:03 PM

Re: RCT&C Midwest Spring Meet

After last weeks meet in Michigan I'm really excited for this one. I got all my trucks ready to haul some more dirt. I orderd some spare drive lines to bring with as last weeks sand pit really put a strain on my trucks.

I am there for sure, would not miss it for anything. I would rather make up an excuse to go, than make one up to not go.

This is something a little to far to Drive for myself. GPS sayed 11hours driving time without Fuel stops and Breaks from my hometown.
Not only that I have only one Truck running in the moment.
Sorry, I hope I will see you guys in Indy this Year.

Regards,
Bernd :)

I wish I could make it. It's only a 2 day drive.. but if I wanna attempt to make it to indy this year I can't make this one. Take lots of pics. I was too busy driving and digging at rcx to take pics

got my hotel booked today. Staying at the Best Western, sounds like they have a golf event and some other gathering that weekend so book it soon.

Re: RCT&C Midwest Spring Meet

I'm booked for the Best Western. My brother and I will be coming down on Friday, early to mid-afternoon. I know the show is Saturday/Sunday, but will there be any help needed on Friday for setup? Maybe get dinner as a group for the guys that are there too?

Lmackattack 06-05-2014 09:38 PM

Re: RCT&C Midwest Spring Meet

I work Friday so im planning on driving down sat morning as its only 3 hrs for me.

Re: RCT&C Midwest Spring Meet

Izzy and Travis came down this weekend to help get setup. Dirt is set to be delivered today/tomorrow. The pit area this year will be about 20x40. We can expand if needed. Concrete pad for show trucks is at least the same size.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5520/1...7c0bcc14_o.jpg

Pit area will be located inside the hangar. Should we get rained out, we'll dig the rock/dirt floor inside.

For those of you on the Fence about coming to the meet, there is going to be a new product release that all of you will be thrilled to see the functioning model. I will say no more but it's a really exciting product. I plan to make a video and put it on the site for those that can't make it but you gotta see this thing in person!

I've made road signs to help guide you to the field. Put my phone number in your phone in case you get lost. 8one8-5three6-26one8

I will be there as well as Izzy and Travis. Probably some others as well. Anyone is welcome to come out early. I think I have the setup handled. Part of the setup will be moving the piles of dirt we have coming. We can choose to do whatever activity we want in the dirt, but probably most of the weekend will be road-building so we can bring in less-capable trucks through the site. Should be fun, we got the entrance road roughed in and built a cool single-lane bridge over the drainage ditch on Saturday.
