Side mirrors
 

Just wondering.... I want to put side mirrors on my little dodge dump truck, if I push them out from the body so they would be far enough out to see past the dump bed they look kind of "odd" sticking out so far....
If I mount them in where they look right then in real life you wouldn;t be able to see around the bed...
So my question is do I make them look right....or do I stick them way out so they would be functional....???
Just wondering how you guys handle a "scale" vs "reality" issue..

On this rig I was just aiming for something that "could" see around the box pretty well, but not need straightened constantly. Mirror hinges somewhere around the sides of the box looked close enough for this toy, but it's also not trying to be any specific real truck.

Eventually I'd really like to try making something with a FPV camera in the driver seat, that is also able to see & use the side mirrors for hriving and backing up.

Yeah, they look ok, I was afraid they would look odd at scale sticking out so far but they don/t thanks....

Yeah, I'm not saying mine looks all that great, but i thought it goes along with wide bed overhangs better than having no mirrors. (It's bad enough my driver still has no windshield)

Is the Aggregate bed you're now running on the tonka Dodge wider than the Rock bed they came with?

Hopefully some others will share what their trucks mirror setups look like.

Whatever you do, Please don't have it look like towing mirrors on the trucks that deliver modular houses.

Well.. at the top it's about 10 or so mm narrower.... at the bottom where the lip sticks out it's about 10mm wider... about half way down from the top it's the same width....inside edge to edge it's a little wider...but over all it's pretty close to the same width.
I'll try and keep them normal looking... :D

There's "normal", and then there's "NORMAL". Take a look at the mirrors on Tesla's production semi-tractor. That thing's got a centrally mounted driver seat, a wrap-around panoramic view from the driver's seat, and mirrors that are hanging WAY out in the breeze.

I think "normal" is whatever lets you see the guy behind you.

I've seen a few dump trucks that have the side mirror mounted from the Cab Protector

Crane trucks and Cement ready-mix trucks can have some pretty wild mirror setups also

Yeah, that makes sense with that half cab you would need the mirormounted way out there...
I was wondering about mirrors on a truck crane....sounds like I can do what ever works...

One of the old Crane Carriers i ran across a while back had a 1-man cab with big rectangle truck mirror mounted normally to cab on the street-side, then on curb-side it had the rectangle mirror mounted on some square-tube coming vertically off the corner with a couple diagonal braces to the bodywork
