Tires

I need to build some tires similar to what Modelman did on his Haul Truck build. My question is, would machinable wax be ok to build the tire to make the mold prior to casting? I have never worked with the wax so it will be a learning experience. Thanks, Fred

Re: Tires

I cant see why not. You could make the intricate details easier vs chancing wood from chipping. Maybe cherry or hard maple too.

Re: Tires

Iron Art-the wax seems like a good idea. Will probably save a couple of steps in the process. I no nothing about machinable wax but I did notice in the rubber that I used it said when using modeling clay, wax, etc. not to use anything with sulphur in it. So just thought I would mention that. Keep us updated.

Re: Tires

Thanks for the info, one of my concerns was when making the mold of the wax tire is there any heat released by the mold making product, would hate to have the tire melt. Fred

Re: Tires

There is some heat involved in the curing but not too much. This is the place I used and they have good tech. bulletins on the products.-
http://www.smooth-on.com/ I used the silicone rubber for the molds and the "Vyta-flex-30" urethane for the tires.
