Re: "Dirty Deeds"

Quick question...if I got one of those sliding vises, do you think it's possible for me to use my drill press to machine aluminum like that?

Re: "Dirty Deeds"

you can try but it would be dangerous due to the fact a drill press is not high speed as is the milling machine. I have both and i wouldn't try to mill with my drill press that's just my 2 cents

Just caught this thread, drill press and trying to machine something doesn't work. Too much slop in drill press. I started that way and very quickly realized the tolerances just aren't there to do what we are trying to achieve. It can be done but the outcome isn't pretty. If it's something that needs done to make a part work , yup possible, but if clean lines and presentation are the goal it doesn't come out well. Speed isn't as much an issue as you can just cut slower but slop in drill head/table/vice are issue.

Cool build and I'll keep watching as it looks like a mean machine!!!!

Re: "Dirty Deeds"

Thanks Cooper and what you said is exactly right thats the point i was trying to get across the finished product will not look clean and the drill has more slop and the back lash would be way off.
