What's everyone been working on?

The board has gotten pretty slow lately, what kind of non-rc projects are you guys working on?

While back I had a silver Maple tree drop a 18"+ limb toward the neighbors house, and learned the tree was rotting. So lots of money went to getting it dropped, and i've been playing with chainsaws and splitters. Also been picking up some other old saws and getting them running. Atleast i have plenty of firewood for that woodstove i don't have yet.

Plus there's this old radioshack car i've been poking at. The newly released Redcat impala might have something to do with deciding it can be on the bench

I finally got my wood shop insulated and wall panels up and now have heat so I'll be able to work in there all year... Plus I had some fall yard work I needed to get done before winter set in and the ground froze. That's the main reason it's taken me so long to finish my loader.... but those things are done and I can get back to something more fun..

Well now I'm looking to replace the engine on my snowblower - lol. JB Weld ain't gonna fix that!

Ouch! Although i think i've seen that engine in an ad before.

"Low-hour snowblower, engines a little loud, ran when parked. $800 firm. No low ballers, i know what i have. Hurry, won't last."

Re: What's everyone been working on?

Sounds like we all have something in common with the projects.
We've been insulating my sons garage and I ordered a heater three weeks ago but still no show till Dec 28th I am told. They took my money and didn't send me the goods.

Frizzen, I finally upgraded to a new Stihl MS362 chainsaw. Put the old 290 Farm Boss on the shelf.

Tgrzes: I bought an old John Deere 112 garden tractor with some attachments last May. When I picked it up the guy told me to take his Sears snowblower too.
A coupls days ago we had our biggest snowfall in a while so I decided to drag the snow blower in the garage to see if I could get it running. Discovered the carb was all varnished up naturally; so I decided to order a new one for $13.99. Maybe the snow will all melt when I get the blower going.
We are still playing catch up with real work since the shut downs in Pennsylvania back in March. I had to close my business for 2 1/2 months.
What I've been wanting to work on is the Eagle D10 I picked up used back in February. It's going to need some upgrades on some of the fit and finish to suit me. I did get a set of the steel replacement tracks and the full "U" blade from another fellow I met at the last Cabin Fever Expo.
Since there's no Cabin Fever Expo this year; I will have one more year to try to work on the dozer and make some more parts on my 9W dragline.

Re: What's everyone been working on?

Nice saws 9w. My Husqvarna 435 took care of 80% of this mess, but tree trunk was way too big for the 16 / 18" bars it could swing. I got grandpas old Homelite 330 going right before a friend was able to bring some bigger saws to help play.

Is that 112 a Round or Square fender?

When I bought the 362, I had the dealer take the 20" bar and put a 18" on. Didn't think I need such a long bar. If I need big stuff cut, I call my sons buddy who usually carries three saws with him everywhere he goes. He upgraded to a brand new MS462 earlier this year.

The 112 is a square fender from original owner. My dad bought one just like it new in 1971. Going to rebuild the engine and clean it up for my grandson to ride around on when he's a little bigger. Mainly bought it because it is in very good shape and the mower deck is real nice.
I have a 212 214 and 216 we still keep running for mowing up at camp.

I recently got started on my first model steam engine, a PM1 stationary engine. I hope to have it running on compressed air in a week or so. I posted an 8 sec clip of a few moving parts on my YouTube channel the other day.

Re: What's everyone been working on?

I think I’m gonna start working on a conveyor belt. I’ve got a Bruder D5 and a Huina Excavator conversion that need something to play with. I’ve been able to get the frame up easy. The difficult part for me is finding a way to run the drive belt. That has been very tricky. Anyone know the best way to get ahold of some of the experts in conversions?

Also curious if anyone knows anything about an upcoming Cabin Fever Expo, I have never attended but I think it is right up my alley. Thanks everyone.

If you look in the construction section I think there might be a build thread or two I'll take a look too... Look thru some of these, I know a couple of guys have built conveyors.
From what I've heard Cabin Fever this year is just a toy show and auction no RC.... not gospel but that's the rumor and I don't see anything on their website....

I'm in the middle of a pretty big project on my Jeep. I cut it in half (again) to stretch it, building all new suspension (again), and will be putting some one ton axles from a Ford Super Duty, along with some 40" tires and a 4 speed Atlas transfer case. It's a 2001 I bought in 2007 and the end goal is to keep it 100% road worthy while also making it stupid capable on the trails.

I've been documenting the build on youtube, albeit slowly.

Before I became an idiot and cut a perfectly good Jeep in half.

How it sits now. Frame is welded back together and the Atlas is going in. It doesn't fit so I'm cutting away sheetmetal until it does.

Re: What's everyone been working on?

Ethan, I know there are some pretty cool conveyers around here to reference, in both conversions and scratchbuilds. Downside is many seem to be hidden in other build threads, or have some kind of odd robot name. The really interesting part is how they get a gearmotor hooked to the belt input. Belts, gears, chains, shaft couplers...

Keep an eye on the events thing at the bottom of the main page? Cabin fever always looked like a great show.

Tommy... Ooops, ya broke it. Poor little (big?) TJ

Thanks Gentleman! I’m going to have to dig deeper here. Finally have some time to do a little tinkering.

Ethan, what kind of material handling conveyer are you considering? Toy conversions, Scratch-built, Kit?
Do you like: Belt, Bucket, Trommel...

Re: What's everyone been working on?

Prior to losing my workspace I was working on a scratch built 4 foot long conveyor system. Now without a decent workshop to tinker in, that project has been placed on the back burner......................for now. HOPEFULLY within a couple of years I can resume work on it, & other projects.

I had a friend design the roller brackets, & rollers. they were 3D printed in ABS at various infill levels. I was aiming to experiment to see what infill offered the best lifespan in service, vs the amount of time it took to print them. One of these day's I'll get to figure it out.

Ethan made chopping and welding on a poor little jeep sound like fun...
my XJ has been down for a while getting Box-Tube Rockers.

Cut off rusted out rocker panels at pinch weld and outboard stiffener line, apply 2x2x1/8" angle to pinch weld, put in a 2x6x1/8" box tube with capped ends... lots of stitch welding

The first rocker showed me it also needed a drivers forward floorpan

Never fails... When you start fixing the rust you can see....you find twice as much you couldn't see.... But it sure looks like that Jeep is work saving, I'm pretty sure you can get all the panels...

You want a new rocker? I have a new one lying outside that fits the area around the back door.

Nice rigs DoubleD. Gonna start build threads?

9wMonighan, yeah if what you need for it and shipping wouldn't be more than it's worth, that'd be really awesome.
