Huina servos disassembly

Hey all; long time no see ‍♂️
I just got huina replacement servos screw drives for my loader (for the meantime—I just want to see it run, immediately ) and I need to know how to take the “cylinder” off of the servo (I need to shorten it).
There’s a pin(?) that holds it on the servo, but how do I get it off?
Is it a lil screw???
Pls halp
Thanks

Got any pics or a link or something so we can see what setup the new servos use?

They’re the ones huina sell.

They look like this:

I need to know how to get those little pins out

Re: Huina servos disassembly

From the amazon pics, they look like probably Tapered Pins?

So support the shaft with something that leaves room for the pin to come out. Small side of pin facing up, select a pin-punch just small enough to fit, tap out pin with small hammer. It should start moving after a couple taps.

If it's just a Roll Pin, or a Straight Pin you won't need to determine a small end on it, it can go out either way

Hey thanks!

Question(s) though:
How do I determine which is the small side?
What do you mean support the shaft?
What kind of pin punch?

Re: Huina servos disassembly

One end of the pin will look slightly smaller as you look at the side of the shaft, you might need a magnifying glass to tell sometimes.
I keep a scrap piece of 2x4 handy with a hole drilled drilled in it, when I need to drive a pin or something out I just put it over the hole and rest the shaft on the 2x4 and tap on it..
A simple pin punch https://www.amazon.com/Mayhew-Pro-21.../dp/B00065UJWS
It's used to drive out ...pins...

Hey, thanks!
Great!
So can the pin go back in??

Cat966c 09-23-2020 05:47 PM

Re: Huina servos disassembly

And can it go back in a different hole? Like one I drilled myself?

Re: Huina servos disassembly

If you've got them, something like a Dial caliper or Micrometer are easier ways to tell if it tapers. It would be subtle.

Pins can be reused as long as they fit tightly.

If it's a tapered pin, they are much happier with a tapered hole so that it has full contact everywhere. Straight holes with taper pin give a lot of contact pressure in 1 or 2 spots, then with use something deforms and the joint loosens up.

Re: Huina servos disassembly

Hmmmmm
I have an old slide caliper

So if it’s tapered, it’ll go back in?
Do I just tap it in the same way?

Re: Huina servos disassembly

If you put the small end of the pin in the large opening in the rod....just tap "gently" it shouldn't need a lot of force.
If you don't have one look at Harbor Freight at the digital calipers $20 I use it all the time money well spent....

Re: Huina servos disassembly

Yes, I know ‍♂️ I know it’s well worth it and I’ve been meaning to Get one but I keep getting sucked into this black hole (lol #helpme)

Ah, so all I have to do to get the pin back in is just tap it in the same way I tapped it out?

And also: would using the same diameter regular screw and nut work?

Re: Huina servos disassembly

Not sure how your going to use them so maybe yes... maybe no... If the nut and bolt don't interfere with how you plan to use it then sure...I would try to make the pin work... again it it's not tapered then it's easy.....sometimes you have to try stuff to see if it will work. I try to use the least destructive method possible so I can fall back to the original design if I have to and I try not to experiment on expensive or hard to get things...lol

Re: Huina servos disassembly

I’m just planning to use the bolt and nut in place of the pin, because I plan to shorten the cylinder that the pin goes in and I won’t be able to reuse the hole and pin ‍♂️
