Zil157 / Studebaker US6. 1/16

One of our new members got a hold of me for some help with setting up a truck he'd ordered.

This is a JJRC Q60, a 6x6 that seems to be based on a Zil-157, soviet version of a Studebaker us6.

At first glance it looks very similar to my WPL 'B1' (bobbed m35 truck).
The chassis looks same, the trans looks same, spring hangars...
The big improvement is the axles. It actually has differentials in the pumpkins, improved looks, and slightly better springs.

This is starting as a budget build. 3ch radio, 20a esc, spms401 servo. I'm not too sure where it's headed.

Plenty of upgrades are being released all the time for these jjrc and wpl trucks, and it's impressive what kinds of things people are doing with them.

Anyway, i'm sure he'll be along shortly.

The stupid silver graphics have only softened with alcohol, but not fully removed since it's a rough texture body. He was talking about a repaint or different cab to look more civillian, so i may have put this in the wrong place.

Everybody likes lights.

Headlights came preinstalled, they just needed rewired to hook up to hobby grade. Then i drilled and mounted 3mm leds in front marker and tail lights. (There's some really nice Back of the class LED install thing that helped with that.)

Also trying to find a 6v 130 size motor with torque.

Even if he doesnt want to talk here, i'm dragging him to Lebanon.

Nice! I can't keep up with all these new cheap small trucks. I just saw this Ural truck in "1/12" scale which according to the measurements looks to actually be 1/16. It will be interesting to see how the diffs in the Zil holds up.

For motors, you could possibly check out upgrade motors for Kyosho mini-z. I have an Atomic T2 in a mini-z monster truck that's got a lot of torque. There's even brushless upgrades with the same size and shape.
You could also consider the 2 speed gearbox with a 370 motor for WPL trucks.

Thanks guys!

I'm not sure what way he's going to want to slow it down. I like the looks of the 2-speed, but i'm not sure if his radio will do it. The motor swap sounds pretty easy.

So i got JerryIndy and his truck up to the Lebanon meet and grabbed a couple pics.

It's scaled a bit more like a pickup truck with really long bed, than a semi. I didn't see it near the 1/16 tank or half-track so i'm not sure how scale held up to them

My dad decided it was a decomissioned truck, so it's been having some other changes.

The trailers still in work, its mostly mockup there.
