Tamiya Globe Liner 6x6 & Flatbed Trailer Build

I've looked at the Tamiya Globe Liner for years before I finally broke down and bought one, I always liked cab over engine semi trucks. This build Im posting took place over a couple years. I bought my kit from RC Mart as it was the best deal with shipping to Canada at the time. I ordered the truck, Futaba 4YWD 2.4 radio, and the Tamiya Multi Function Control Unit along with a couple basic servos to get me started.
https://i.imgur.com/COr5G7Bh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/6xxBiDch.jpg I bought Knight Hauler frame rails a couple years ago as I've had the idea of a stretched Globe Liner for sometime. I had to drill and tap a few mounting holes to make it work. Here's a bad pic of first assembly. https://i.imgur.com/xeoWBPOh.jpg Laying things out for a custom front end. Headlights are cut down from the rear bumper lights. You can also see the mount I built for the speaker behind the grill. https://i.imgur.com/6zIBXawh.jpg Filler piece made and I made the grill from aluminum sheet and the factory mesh. https://i.imgur.com/mVId7dLh.jpg I also moved the front axle forward and started the body work to move the wheel well forward to match. https://i.imgur.com/h7pKG6Dh.jpg Filler piece made to reshape wheel well. https://i.imgur.com/4UKgbQNh.jpg Made a frame rail cover from aluminium, drilled and tapped frame rails to mount it. https://i.imgur.com/aeGtIXoh.jpg And started painting some parts, primed then sprayed some Tamiya Red. https://i.imgur.com/k7DIll0h.jpg Here she is after some paint, still only rear wheel drive at this point. https://i.imgur.com/yq824zwh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1egeEL6h.jpg More to come |

Here's the Tamiya TLT axle mounted. Don't mind the JBL weld, I replaced the cracked axle housing later on. You can also see how I mounted the front leaf spring mount, this is how I moved the front axle forward. I used aluminium round bar thru the front bumper mount with a screw from the top side to hold it in place. And to get the front ride height just right I shaved some of the plastic from the axle housing where the leaf mounts to it and I also removed a leaf to get the front end lower.
https://i.imgur.com/h2OthLzh.jpg I also moved the tranny rearwards in the frame to allow a workable angle for the front drive shaft. Here you can also see the mount I built to hold the MFC unit under the cab. The speaker is in the front between the seats. I also added new LESU tires https://i.imgur.com/b6ZfONEh.jpg I lengthened the 3 speed output shaft on the front by building it up with my welder and shaping it on the bench grinder. This gave me a mounting point for the front drive shaft. Shafts were made from traxxas and axial parts. https://i.imgur.com/Miy4C82h.jpg Axle shaved, alloy C hubs installed and painted. Also notice how i mounted my MFC control board in the gas tank. https://i.imgur.com/jHgzcIZh.jpg And after lots of masking here's the final paint job. https://i.imgur.com/1sTij7Nh.jpg New front bumper as well https://i.imgur.com/6VhMzODh.jpg Testing out the 6 wheel drive https://i.imgur.com/9IhUJBAh.jpg |

Next up was the trailer build, Tamiya Flatbed. As a first time builder of one of these I was surprised by the all the parts in the trailer kit.
https://i.imgur.com/pDNNjiwh.jpg Finished build out in the snow, alloy wheels on the trailer. https://i.imgur.com/q48JZRKh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/4rMYoggh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/byOqhbGh.jpg I knew when I got the trailer that I'd be making it longer for a more scale look. Mounting up suspension to new trailer frame, I like my axles all the way to the back. https://i.imgur.com/DvvtxvGh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/thQ3lBjh.jpg The stretch https://i.imgur.com/AB3pzcQh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/hziGjMlh.jpg Building new deck using aluminium and Tamiya wood deck planks https://i.imgur.com/YsLnJtxh.jpg I also polished all the aluminium https://i.imgur.com/wKeVXggh.jpg Stickers added for some detail and a coat of varnish on the planks https://i.imgur.com/RdxfoD6h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/e2ynyPth.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uEeLoRNh.jpg The polished aluminium really pops in the sun https://i.imgur.com/nXCFnpOh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/bSAOZcXh.jpg |

As happy as I was with the flatbed trailer build I really wanted a low boy so I got the RC4WD lowboy designed by SemiJoe. This is the trailer I wanted from the beginning but I could not justify the price at the time. But Tower Hobbies started selling these so I was able to use member discounts and Easy Pay to ease the pain lol...but I'll probably still end up selling the flatbed.
