Project Gigaspace: First Build
Hey everyone, first post here.
As mentioned, since this is my first build, so keeping the setup simple and basic. So no additional pieces are going to be sought after until the basic build and running gear is done. Some pictures of the Merc here, any advice most welcome: http://25.media.tumblr.com/29ddebfc0...yxy6o1_500.jpg http://25.media.tumblr.com/9611f3d97...yxy6o1_500.jpg http://24.media.tumblr.com/c3d35ce97...yxy6o1_500.jpg http://24.media.tumblr.com/33c443853...yxy6o1_500.jpg http://25.media.tumblr.com/31fcdc462...yxy6o1_500.jpg http://24.media.tumblr.com/2aa8067f3...yxy6o1_500.jpg http://24.media.tumblr.com/c8d843b44...yxy6o1_500.jpg Colour chosen for it? Metallic silver TS-83. Not used it before, so looking forward to the results! |

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Heh, I don't think you'll want me to be any sort of quality yardstick just yet! I have to say I'm rather thrilled with my progress so far. :)

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Very nice choice on the Kit. I got one when they first came out and have not gotten to it yet. One advise on the TS-83 , be careful with it, it likes to run because of the flakes, make sure it's a nice dry day when you spray it or it will turn into a mess.

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
That I shall.
Servos and other associated radio gear in. Got a 2.4GHz setup with 4 channels, nothing fancy though as there is a budget here. Also had great fun redoing the rear end when I saw the brackets on the wrong way. I'm horrible at reading instructions... Quote:

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Dammit, my diagram reading skills are awful! I had to redo the front end this time because it was located too far back. Genius. That meant taking out the motor/gearbox, radio gear support and... ackkk, not thinking what else now. Too much faffing around wasting time because I didn't do a good job the first time.
But, onto the good news... Paint! I used a typical grey primer for the undercoat and then it was metallic silver time. Eek. I have to say, I love the results. I think some clear coat will be needed very shortly though. While that happened, I had time to put the rest of the guards on. I didn't have time to put the other side on yet, as I... yeah, the wasted time thing again. |
Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Bloody heck, it's big. (That's what... ummm, too obvious a punchline). |
Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Wow that looks great!!!! That's it, I shall get the ball bearings and start the build.

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Great start! I've always like the Euro trucks. Please post some pics of the whole cab painted.

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
I have so far put it in primer, but my talent doesn't stretch much further than that (and yeah... metallic silver sucks in an application sort of way), so I did the only sensible thing. Drop it off at someone's doorstop who is better at painting and run away screaming. My usual cop out answer, anyway.
I have some LEDs and some rather looking DIL switches to control the lighting necessary, looking forward to learning that in the meantime. |
Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Glenn (his cheque is in the post. Maybe...) has started working the paint on the large bits. As you can see... it's a mixed result. But since he has much better patience and skill, I'm not concerned.

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Looking good so far. I finally cracked the box open on mine. Not gonna post any pictures as of yet, maybe the body once it's painted and some of the details.

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Testing the RC stuff. It moves!
Well... Ignore a fair bit of it didn't hold together long. I haven't screwed it together very well at all, surprise surprise. That and can't work out how to make the shifting work for mid range, low and high working quite well. Sigh. |

Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
HAHAHA^^ The silver does make a great base coat for metallic dark paints :D. Looks great.
|
Re: Project Gigaspace: First Build
Maybe so, but the silver didn't go on at all well. Restarted with the grey primer for a darker mica blue. I like blues darker than the norm. :P
