combo units
 

hey looking to expand the ol shop a little, mainly looking for milling machine but have been eyeing up a couple of the lathe/mill units anyone have experience with these? worth havin or keep em separate ?
any help is appreciated

Hi I personally do not like combo units. With 2 different units you can have 2 different set ups but not on a combo. It also depends on how much room you have.. Ed

I'm very new to the metal work type tooling but on a budget. I've had my eye on this for awhile and like the fact it can cut and bend. Small yes, but so are the pieces I want to make.:):confused:

I would stay away from the combo units unless you are very limited on space. Much better to have separate machines. It allows you to work on 2 different things at the same time without breaking the machine set up down to do something else.

I have a similar bender/shear from Micromark. It should handle most of your smaller projects.

I can't vouch for them all, but I will speak from experience.
Stay away from the cheaper lathe/milling machine combos in the $1,200-$1,500 range.
The ONLY thing I received from purchasing one was a $1,350 lesson to buy the right tool the first time and to stay away from discount JUNK!

I have a maching just like this one. Works good if you don't exceed the max thickness. I pushed it cutting and bending some 0.032" thick aluminum. I broke first a pin and then later stripped a gear. It is solid but has definite limits.

I have been looking into combo units due to budget and space. Grizzly Products has a couple that come with just about all of the extras needed to start. Small units but functional in my mind.
