Re: 1/16 Bucyrus-Monighan Walking Dragline

steve-I look at the discussion thread every few days to see what is going on. I meant was there anything new with the dragline. After reading that your machine had spent a long time in the trailer I...

Re: PC1800 Front Shovel (1/12)

I agree joe and he certainly knows how to use it!!! I am thinking this machine will be heavy enough to do some serious digging. Nice work!!

Re: PC1800 Front Shovel (1/12)

Very nice work!! I like the small details you are adding. This looks to be a very big machine and that should make working on it a bit easier. Seems like tracks are always the toughest to make and...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-that picture helps a bit but still confusing to me but no worries, I'm old!! Your fixture looks good but I would be careful with the aluminum threads. In my experience they will eventually...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-that cut seems to be a long way from the table. Hope your mounting is good. I haven't understood what you are doing with the wheels but I thought I would just wait until they were done. I'm...

Re: PC1800 Front Shovel (1/12)

I agree with RCP-I want to see everything!! A scratch build and a front shovel. It just doesn't get any better than that for me. I prefer the older cable shovels but I guess they are on the way out....

Re: PC1800 Front Shovel (1/12)

I am also glad to see this build start. I am not a hydraulics guy but I will follow this all the way. Nice work so far. Post lots of pictures.

Re: Where to post.

Fhhhstix-I agree with you completely on this subject. That is one of my pet peeves to come on here and see the same old tired questions asked over and over again, but I just keep quiet although I...

Re: LilGiantsConstrCO

I like your idea on the cutter joe, but my guess is that it will take a dedicated machine for this. Lots of weight, Lots of power and very precise control of the cutter head. I'm sure you could build...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-your first tire looks good. You probably don't need my advice but I will offer a bit of what I learned in this process. I see a little air and this will be a small problem but I noticed one of...

Re: Dragline Crawler Build

Good to see you working on a dragline again jim-I know nothing about the clamshells except most of the models I have seen do not work very well. The weight idea is probably good. I like your...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

You don't think triple digits is fast!! You may need to back off sniffing the acetone fumes. :D When I see that smooth water in the background of your pictures I wonder why you don't have a boat each...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-I was trying to explain to "bigford" how vacuum bagging works. I know what you are doing but I have no experience with de-gassing the resin or rubber. I have quite a bit of experience with...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

No, Vacuum is meant to be used on an open mold or table or a flat surface. Example-if you vacuum something down on a flat table, you seal the part around the edges and vacuum the air out from under...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-I used the "vyta-flex 30" urethane rubber from "smooth-on"on my tires. I thought I was good by how easily they flexed but when mounted on the rim they became very hard. I think because it was...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

I don't think you can put a vacuum on a closed mold.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-I think you will have a better chance of getting the air out if you have the tire lying down perfectly flat and level. I will show you a few pictures of what I did and maybe it will help you...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-what you have so far looks really good. On molding, any imperfection in the tire will show up in the mold and on the molded part. But it is just a "dump truck tire" so I wouldn't be too...

Re: Great Dane excavating co.

Cooper-your tire plug looks good. Have you decided how you will mold it? After I made mine I figured out a way to make it in to equal halves by using one mold. Make the mold come to the exact...

Re: 90 ton 1/14 metal excavator scratch build w/embedded PC

Nice start on this build. It's just my opinion but the problem I see is in the next to last picture. The large gaps between the track pads is why I do not like roller chain but I understand why you...
