If you use roll taps (form taps) they have a lot less tendency to break. The kicker is they really only work in machines, not by hand. Also the typical tap drill chart your probably using is calling for 75% thread. By using bigger tap drills you can go all the way down to 55% thread. This is usually a must on taps m2 or smaller.
