Can operate a relay directly from receiver?
Since I have no experience with RC to draw on, I need some help. Can I drive a 3.3 VDC reed relay directly from the Signal and Ground posts on the receiver? The ON time would be 5 seconds, about every 10 minutes. Wanting to operate a small motor - at one speed - and the relay would provide power from an isolated battery supply to the motor.
If this won't work or may damage the receiver, I'll have to get something like the PicoSwitch. Thanks! Hope everyone has a great time at Indy. We are leaving tonight for family reunion in Buffalo - I think about Freddy Gear Drive whenever we visit up there. Ken

Re: Can operate a relay directly from receiver?
I guess that won´t work. (hope I can explain it with my bad english):
At the receiver you have three electrical connections: + (normally red) - (mostly black) signal (yellow...) You can´t use the signal cable to control a relay. I guess you´ll have to use a switch that is operated by the receiver. But: I am not the specialist for electronics, so maybe some others have a better idea. What about a small Servo that activates a switch? If you have enough space for this components? ...or someting like that: http://www.cti-modellbau.de/product_...ul-4-fach.html With this you can control 4 functions with one stick of your transmitter...(I got one in my Deutz Allis)

Re: Can operate a relay directly from receiver?
You will need either a pico switch, or a larger relay based switch (say a battleswitch) if you are switching more current(I run a battleswitch on a Mabucchi motor for the hydraulic pump on my skip truck).
