Side mirrors

Just wondering.... I want to put side mirrors on my little dodge dump truck, if I push them out from the body so they would be far enough out to see past the dump bed they look kind of "odd" sticking out so far....
If I mount them in where they look right then in real life you wouldn;t be able to see around the bed...
So my question is do I make them look right....or do I stick them way out so they would be functional....???
Just wondering how you guys handle a "scale" vs "reality" issue..
