Default Sanding down a eagel/rc4wd machine?

Looking to possibly change the color on a DXR2, was wondering if anyone had gone this route yet and what they came across with regards to the delivered paint/primer. Had to sand completely to metal? Roughed up and painted?

I know a couple guys on here painted their 4200's, not sure the process they took to painting it though.

Is it powder coated paint?

Scotchbrite, wash it, paint it
