Default The EPA strikes again!

Got off to a real good start on the wrecker body build today and partway into assembling the bed discovered I was almost out of liquid styrene glue. No problem thinks I, the wife wants to run to an Office Depot that just happens to be by the local hobby shop.
After picking up some needed Evergreen Styrene shapes I asked the clerk for two bottles of Tenax-7R. "Sorry Sir, that's been discontinued. The EPA says any item with a certain chemical which it contains can no longer be sold. We've been out for a while and there won't be any more."

Really!!!!!

A ONE OUNCE BOTTLE of glue is going to destroy the planet!!!??? Am I getting old and cranky or is this regulation stuff getting totally out of hand? Now right in the middle of a build I have to find a liquid styrene cement that works as good as Tenax did!

Try out plastruct plastic weld. Contains MEK and doesn't evaporate as quickly.

I bought a bottle of Tenax-7R a couple years ago and didn't like it, I think I still have it. I use the stuff BennyB linked to. I also buy a couple bottles at a time and do what IZZY and fhhhstix showed me, take plastic shavings and put in one of the bottles and shake it up and keep repeating the process until its real thick, makes the best putty ive found.

Thanks Benny and Kent! I'll give the Plastruct a try. The LHS didn't have it either but they can order it.
Interesting idea about making your own putty. I'll have to give that a shot too. How does it do for shrinkage? Always loved how easy the Squadron putty worked but the shrink was terrible.

I've not seen it shrink yet and I wouldn't think it would since all it is, is melted plastic and glue so when it dries it bonds into the parts and simply turns back to hard plastic. It's sands just like the plastic does. I found that if you get it a little heavy and it wants to run, if you blow on it, it will skin over and stop flowing. I have decided to let it set over night before sanding for the best results.

Good information, thanks. I'll give it a shot as the wrecker moves into the cab construction.

That’s an interesting place! If I were still into plastic I would have gone nuts, not much for RC.

Wish I could say the same. LOL!!! I love old plastic models! Took some extra $ with me this last time just to go there. The USS Indianapolis is coming along nicely!
