Default New from MS and need some input

Hello to all. I'm here for a specific reason adn I hope someone here can help me. My 9 YO son is RC crazed, has been since 4 or 5. Very mechanically inclined for a child to the point he can operate effectively a mini excavator https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7bzno3HqPQ.
He really wants a RC excavator for Christmas and I am lost. I can't justify spending the money I see some of you spend on builds but I also want something operable and decently made. Do any of you have any suggestions in the $200 range that would work for him?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to the forum! Where bouts in MS are you from? I live in Southaven just south of Memphis. We are having our annual truck and construction show this weekend in Jackson, TN. If you are close enough you should ride on up and check it out. We will also have a show in late January in Cleveland, MS.

Jackson area. Thanks for the invite. Can't make that one but please send me the info on the January event. He would love that.

Welcome to the forum.

This is about all you get in the $200 range.

Gutless electric motors with plastic gears, probably won't last very long.

And for a little more you can have a bruder conversion from Magnom rc don't have the link but there is some conversions here on the forum. they are at least hydraulic and can function in soft dirt or crumb rubber.
