Nice work PFB. If I might make one suggestion. You had mentioned that you use CA and kicker so that you can break it apart if it's not right.

Well I can see the reasoning in that. I would strongly suggest that you use either Plastruct's Bondene or their Plastic Weld
when using styrene. I use both. I use the Bondene when I might need a little time to get it positioned correctly and the Plastic Weld when i want it quickly.

The problem with the CA is that it can break, thus why you say you use it. The Bondene and Plastic Weld do just that they weld the pieces together and if it is going to break it will most likely not do it where you bonded it.

As for tacking the pieces together for fitment, just use blue tape. The reason for this is because the plastic Weld and Bondene will not work if there is CA on the joints.

Also for extra rigidity on 90° butt joints where possible (where not seen) I use a piece of 1/4 x 1/4 x .020 angle.

Just my two cents, I am in no way criticizing your work it truly looks great.

When everything is in place I'll just epoxy the joints. Gotta sand everything down for that too so it bites into the plastic.

RC4WD planetary trans will mount up easy. Hopefully save some room for the rear lift too. Will have to experiment with different motors to see if I can get the right speed/power setup.

That planetary looks like it's meant to fit right in there, doesn't it? Would you happen to know the gear ratio, Nate?

Thanks Nate. With Tamiya axles then, you'd have a 42.56 : 1 final drive ratio. That's not to shabby, but not all that low either.

That's the gear box I am going to use. Got it already just need the motor.

Nate the gear box is designed to use a 540. I am planning (after talking to TC) to use a 55t in the Shak.

That looks perfect! I don't really see the point of a 3 speed gearbox, I only want one speed, slow! (and of course reverse). The Tamiya gearbox, don't get me wrong, its cool, but takes up a lot of space and seems like a bit of a waste of a channel that could be better used on something else. That RC4WD unit looks like the perfect alternative, it's neat, fits the frame and runs a 540.
My ideal set up would be a CAT C12 with the motor hidden inside and feeding that RC4WD planetary gearbox.
