Great video, you seem to have really nailed the movements!

Re: 1/10 Caterpillar D8T Build (3D Printed)
thanks, it was a challenge at first trying to figure out how to program my 6-channel Radiolink pistol radio to do the track movement, also, it would have been better if there are 2 more channels available but i just have to make use of the 2 channel with toggle switches, and 1 with a dial that would work as a toggle switch too. channel 4 is unusable since it is normally on and only push button to turn off so not for the up-down movement of a cylinder... i may have to get a new radio that is at least 10 channels for my upcoming projects.

Re: 1/10 Caterpillar D8T Build (3D Printed)
Not sure how you feel about radios but a flysky i6x is 10 channels... I like them for my D5 and delta loader because I can mix the tracks onto one stick.. The i6s is also 10 channels I like it for my excavator and other track driven cranes or drag lines because it has 2 dials on each corner of the radio to use for the tracks leaving the sticks free for boom up/down, cable in/out,slew,etc..

the radios are about $60 on Amazon,
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z9YNP7S...v_ov_lig_dp_it the receivers 6 channel is $18 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z9YNP7S...v_ov_lig_dp_it and the 10 channel is $21 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B74H861D...dDbGljaz10cnVl and this 6 channel is$18 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D21273Y...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== If you look around even on amazon you might find them a few dollars cheaper |

Re: 1/10 Caterpillar D8T Build (3D Printed)
At first glance I thought those were resin printed parts, and thought that you'd gotten a resin printer. Then I zoomed in on them and saw the layer lines from a filament printer. That's some damned fine work. I can see that the cab is made of of a LOT of separate pieces. What's your nozzle size and layer thickness? I've printed pieces for models before, but nothing that finicky.
How many hours did it take you to model the cab parts? I may have asked this before, but what software do you use? Again, NICE WORK!! Last edited by ddmckee54; 10-27-2023 at 12:53 PM. |

You say your nozzle is still stock, is that a 0.4mm nozzle or something smaller?

Re: 1/10 Caterpillar D8T Build (3D Printed)
I can see I'm going to have to crack the whip on my printers and not accept any more shoddy work from them.
I normally print at a 0.25mm layer height but I have printed a couple of prints at 0.1mm, the amount of detail that an FDM printer is capable of at that layer height is amazing. I usually print at 50-60mm/s, what do you set your print speed to for these detail parts? |

Re: 1/10 Caterpillar D8T Build (3D Printed)
Thanks for the hints on the printer settings....most of what I print are just brackets and stuff, but good to know stuff right there...
I'd also like to fine a back-up horn.... just the horn I don't need the engine sounds... |

Re: 1/10 Caterpillar D8T Build (3D Printed)
Have you checked the Arduino forums? Odds are good that somebody has already posted a How-to on how to do it.

Re: 1/10 Caterpillar D8T Build (3D Printed)
I did, but unfortunately, i got confused even more, i guess electronics is not really my thing lol.... but i was able to do it, using a servo plugged in to the throttle channel with a wye harness, then a cam disc pushing a limit switch to turn on and off a piezo intermittent alarm powered thru a spare channel of the receiver.
