What's the spec's on that motor?

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

I've put a fair amount of stress on these ring and pinions before. I know they'll fail eventually though.

Specs on pullers:
You can't find a more powerful brushed motor in this class. You get insane wheelspeed, more torque than any 540 motor, and the finest slow speed control. All in one motor. 7 slot armature allows for better throttle resolution with a high motor speed.

Recommended lipo battery-

6t- 2s only. 40a continuous
7t- 2 to 3s (3s may result in overheating). 45a continous 11.1v use, 35a continuous 7.4v use
10t- 2 to 3s. 40 amps continuous 11.1v use, 30 amps continuous for 7.4v.
14t- 3 to 6s. 35a continuous 22.2v use, 25a continuous 3s use

Slightly longer than a standard 540 motor. Uses standard 1/8" pinions, and 25mm motor mount spacing- bolts up like a normal 540 motor. **Some stock uses 4-40 mounting screws that are included**

Super Strong cobalt magnets
7 slot armature
6.9 ounces, 200g
2.5" long, 1.35" diameter
5-10 volts
160*F max

6t- TBD
7t - 2800 rpm/volt
10t- 1800 rpm/volt
14t- TBD

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

You should just go ahead and give this truck a powered front axle. I think you'll like having it, and it would raise the front bumper up a touch. You might not even need to mill it. If it's worth building, it's worth over building!

The winch isn't a required bit. The guys up north use winches to pull the trailer up the ramps to save the driveline in less than ideal conditions.

Got some work done on the rig tonight.

Here's the mount I came up with for the R2HD trans:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7066/6...c661dfb9_b.jpg

It's only mounted to one side so I thought I was going to have to brace it to the other side frame but it feels pretty solid.

YEEEEAAAH BUDDY! That motor will do the trick I have one in my tri axle and she pulls like a champ.. I am glad I got a few before they stopped making them.

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

Thats a pretty nice trans mount! Looks beefy. I'd build another for the otherside, if it was mine, but sometimes when you are making parts like this, by hand, you're lucky if the holes come out where you want them, and they line up the first time! It becomes a question of you deciding if you really feel like making a copy of the same parts!

pigeonfarmboy 03-14-2012 04:35 PM

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

Theres no mounting holes on that side of the trans. Would have to tie a bracket in from the top. Problem with that is the top of the trans already hits the interior floor. Would like to keep that in tact if possible.

Izzy 03-24-2012 09:42 AM

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

With that frame support just behind the trans I think you will be OK - at least untill most everything else is mounted up. Why not poke some holes in that other side? you would have to take it apart to clean up the shavings and such though...

pigeonfarmboy 03-24-2012 08:57 PM

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

Why is Izzy always wanting to poke holes in things? Weirdo... ;)

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

After several torch welding failures to notch the rear frame, I decided to machine an end cap instead. I think it turned out good and will look nice under paint. I can even mill out the delrin block and make room to hide electronics in there.

Looks really good. I have been using a delrin mount in the front of two of my trucks to mount the front bumper to and it works good and machines good

hey pig do you have any more extra wide frnt tires mounted? I was gonna orer a few sets but im not sure if they will look good on the stock width wheels?

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

None of the super singles look good in my opinion. Probably the tamiya ones are the most accurate to what we have in the states. None of them have the right sidewall bulge to my eye.

I really hate to burst your bubble but paint is not going to stick to the delrin block. It might look good at first but the first time you bump into something:mad::mad:

Make a new rear deck plate and extend it wrapping the diamond plate around the delrin block.

Good thinking! I need to cover my drill mistake on the rear anyways.

Izzy 10-11-2012 09:36 PM

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

FYI - some aluminum doesn't weld worth a hoot. But my local guy does mostly tig welding.

Wrap around deck plate will look good.

Nope. Been racing 1:12 rc and taking lots of photos instead of building.

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

Picked up this headache rack on ebay a while back. I liked the fact it lifts out of the way so I can access the battery in the sleeper.
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2826/9...ffe5543c_b.jpg

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3823/9...a6d727df_b.jpg

Still hadn't fixed the rear crossmember cover up so it was time to change that:
From this:
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2885/9...9cf077c7_b.jpg
To this:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3795/9...8ee0b5ef_b.jpg

You can see I also had to make a 2nd extended version of the electronics receptacle plate so the deans harness wouldn't hit the bottom of the headache rack.

Mounted up the gooseneck. Just need to run extensions to the receiver for aux control on the neck lock and my Izzy Bottom Dump train. Going to try to get some fenders and mounts fabbed up too.

Probably will do a body overhaul after Indy. Thinking Kenworth C500B to satisfy the beef factor I'm after :)

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

hey cool truck but isnt the 5th wheel a lil too far forward shouldnt it be centered between the rear 2 tandems

pigeonfarmboy 08-15-2013 09:59 AM

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler

Most of the trucks I researched had it set right where I do. I haven't checked the spacing for my bottom dump trailers but those might need the 5th wheel moved back. I will eventually have an adjustable either physical or screw drive setup to move it.
