Day cab dump truck

I am building another day cab cab over dump truck but this one will just be a tandem drive and the shortest cab I could make. When I am done with this one it will be for sale.

Specs

1: Converted Globe Liner

2: 3 speed trans with Integy 4:1

3: Tazer 12T ESC and a 55 turn motor (stock motor is used only for mock up)

4: 2 1600Mah batteries in parallel for good run time

5: Hitec 645MG servos for steering and shift

6: Custom front rims with Tamiya SS, stock rear rims and tires with RC4WD hubs

7: Bushings through out only bearings are in the 4:1 NO bearings used in the rest of the truck. They are just not needed in our trucks + if a bushing gets worn you still get to play but if a bearing fails you are done to you replace it and most just buy the cheap $20-$30 bearing kits which are a wast of money anyway.

8: RCE220 RC Small Dual Relay Switch to control the screw drive motor

9: Carson 50:1 gear motor to operate the screw drive

10: My own custom screw drive

11: Styrene bed

12: color will be ?????

Well here are the pics of what I have so far.

Thanks Ben the screw drive is the same design just better quality (eye appeal) parts now that I have some tooling for the mill. I spent better than 7 hrs making the screw drive today and had most of the parts cut to length yesterday. A lot of that was spent at the mill and I had a great time doing it, with the right tooling.

Re: Day cab dump truck

Thanks Straywolf I appreciate the ideas.

I have made a little more progress on this build. I now have the tailgate, splash pan, and rear bumper to finish then it will be ready for filler and paint. I have most of the electronics in the truck and hooked up I just need the ESC for the screw drive and the main power switch. I did something a little different this time and added a main power switch and a charging jack so the batteries can stay in the truck and charging it is a simple plug and play. Enough talk here are some pics.

Brian I just copied what Rod had done on his green day cab tri axle. Take the out side bead off a rear rim and glue it to the front rim after I take the front rim and smooth out the edge and remove the chrome.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I see these wide rims all the time and wonder how they are made.

Great looking truck man! Is the charging jack in the front bumper? Is the port something you buy or build? I have never seen tis done before/well with the exception of a charging jack on a remote, but on a truck its a new one for me..How does the speed control for the dupm wire in? I will be building a dump trailer for my dodge, but I cant wrap my head around how the wiring will go??

Thanks Tim I have some ideas for modding the cab into something a little different so it might be a bit before I have another update.

The charging port is a Deans connector wired into the off side of the power switch so it is just like plugging the charger into battery but you don't have to remove the battery to charge it. The ESC for the dump is wired in parallel with the drive ESC so it gets shut off with the power switch as well. The ESC for the dump is from The Robot Market Place (Click here to see the ESC) and it has solder spots for limit switches to limit up and down travel and is perfect for the screw drives. For a dump trailer I like to build tool boxes under the bed for the ESC and battery so the trailer is self contained and only needs a servo lead to the trailer to control the dump allowing it to be controlled by multiple trucks easily.

Thanks to all for looking and the comments.

Thanks Izzy I got the paint from one of our members here and he picked out a great color. Here are a couple pics of the cab and body sitting on the chassis. I have some wet sanding and polishing to do but it should look real good.

Re: Day cab dump truck

Well the truck is done for the most part all I have left is cutting the side boards. The paint turned out decent, it is not perfect by any standards but I think it will be fine for a dump truck.

Re: Day cab dump truck

That's a nice combo right there. The cab over day cab is my least favorite style - but you make them look right at home with a dump. Much better turn radius than a long nose as well. And I agree that paint job turned out good - heck a little time in a sand box and she'll look great!

Great job Travis!
