PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Need something to tug the 850D around. Got the rails cut/drilled/tapped tonight and got it in roller form:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7163/6...f51c4b6b_b.jpg Went with Russ's new airbag suspension. Super nice stuff and makes it super easy to link up multiple axles. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7172/6...77e1ff58_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7153/6...0a238bf5_b.jpg Had the regular roadys so I was excited to see the wide guys come out: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7024/6...60b88ee0_b.jpg Plan to try it 8x6 first, if needed I'll drop in a TLT up front. Plan to use a Holmes Hobbies puller on either a 3-speed or an HD RC4WD R2 trans. Been using their "Mega Truck" drivelines on the dump with no issues. Pricey but they will hold up a good while. Will eventually mod the body to a pete as well. Still unsure on daycab/sleeper. |
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Looking good Nate.
The 850 will certainly be the ultimate for a durability test on Russ's suspension components! :D Tri drives... wide turning radius, if it turns at all! You americans don't use jeeps? |
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Great looking truck, so far! I really like Russ's suspension too. The nice thing is you will be able to tune it's capacity, with heavier springs, if you want. We are really lucky to have some great vendors now, right here in our own part of the hemisphere.
Hmm, so let's see. 80 pounds spread over 6 axles (not counting the steering axle) would be a bit over 13.25 pounds per axle. Add the weight of the truck and trailer itself, and it's probably going to go up to 18 or 20 pounds? That's heavy hauling! |

looks good Nate . you might want to center the 5th wheel over the 2nd rear or make a sliding fith wheel . If your building your own trailer make the neck long . (edit) here you go http://www.trailking.com/trailers/?trailer_id=45 |
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Nice truck, starting to look like Freddy's black 8X6. I know this is getting the cart before the horse but what are you going to have for a lowboy?
|
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Looking really good, she is going to be a heavy hauler for sure.
I'm waiting on a set of russ's suspension myself, and can't wait to get them. Keep up the good work. Big John |
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Looks good cant wait to see more but steve is right you should have the plate set over or ahead of the center axle..
|
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Noted! 5th isn't mounted yet.
I have Izzys old tandem lowboy I may try to extend it but will probably just build a new one |
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Looks like you are off to a great start Nate it should look real good pulling around the excavator.

Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
That s right I forgot you got that from Chris.. Great trailer it will all look great together..
|
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
That trailer is real nice but it would look all wrong with that monster on a tandem low boy.
For instance here's what pulls a stripped down Zaxxis: http://www.coesens.com/fotoboek/imag...20x%20642).jpg |
Re: PFB Tri-Axle King Hauler
Nate , you may be able to just build an extension to the gooseneck that flips down . I've seen a real 1 like that somewhere in my travels
