Dan,

Have you tried just opening the valves up that are there now? You could do some smarts with the servos... Its gotta be easy to run the receiver and servos without the motor?

I have both Tamiya and Wedico, with the Wedico being the same sale as the scaleart.

Yep there are 6 mixes available, which can be a little limiting...

You can also assign:
- Throttle - any channel - Only throttle stick though (unless it's sail plane/heli mode)

You will need either a pico switch, or a larger relay based switch (say a battleswitch) if you are switching more current(I run a battleswitch on a Mabucchi motor for the hydraulic pump on my skip...

Just looking at the length of the spool valves, I am not sure if you have enough room? Also all the model valves I have seen are rotary not...
