This is a Madill loader with a Pirahna grapple.
I hope this is the right section of the forum. Madill loader.jpg |

The model is Tethered to a remote power unit for the hydraulics and electical supply.
We are running a power steering pump for hydraulics and maintain around 700 PSI to function the machine. It is capable of grabbing and heeling 2 8' 2x4's. The swing and tracks are powered by automotive power window motors. Now with the availability of micro hydraulics we are looking at converting to full radio control, but I'm hoping to convert our Challenger Off highway truck to Radio control first. Just to get started on a simpler conversion. |

Wow! Very impressive. It would come in handy moving some scrap lumber in my yard.

700psi is impressive. What scale are you building in? Looks like a great machine.

Yes, more pictures. Do you have some sort of rotary union for 360deg rotation?

Jordy. That's one fine looking machine you and your dad built. Can't wait to see it up close.

We are working in 1"=1' scale or 1/12.
The machine is only cabable of 300 degrees rotation because there is no rotary union and yes the cylinders are home made. Everything is fabricated out of mild steel and bushed with Oilite bearings. All the cylinders are single acting and return on gravity except for the grapple which uses spring return. The machine is 4' from the center pin to the grapple and weighs roughly 200 pounds. It was the latest model built and was preceeded by an 075 Madill cable loader, a Madill 044 interlock yarder(the largest model at over 300 pounds), and a Challenger Off highway logging truck. My dad isn't one for taking many pictures and I was too young(he started building 30+ years ago) to know enough to do it myself at the time. He is currently building a trailer to haul/ display the machines. When it is done I'll make sure to get lots of photo's and video to post. Hopoefully we will be able to attend some of the antique truck shows on the Island as he is a member of the Vancouver Island historical society and currently does all the driving of the freight trucks for them. I forgot to mention the 075 was completed in 1988 and is still functional although the motors are getting a little tired.

Whe my dad was building it, I would come home from school and run it while he wasn't there. I got a lot of practice with it but actually wore out a set of winch motors before it was finished.
Thanks for the comments Guys ![]() |

It's a couple of very cool projects i'd love to see more details on, but i wouldn't hold my breath for updates.
