Rock truck question
On the large trucks there is a piece that hangs between the duals. What is it called and what is it's function?

Re: Rock truck question
They are used to prevent rocks becoming wedged between the tires. After time they could wear a hole in the sidewall of the tire.
I have no idea what they are called. Ken O |

Re: Rock truck question
Down my way - Kentucky & southern Indiana - they are called rock knockers. To prevent tire punctures, some quarries use large chains instead. They are looped below the wheel, between the tires with the two ends pinned to the underside of the bed. Also, some of the solid knockers have a football-shaped end welded on, giving a rounded surface that reduces damage the sidewall.
