Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Oh man... "Completely working" ? I just said now it can drive, steer, and dump.
Next you'll say i should still make a 2/3A battery pack, get an Rx and 2 Esc in there. Probably do a little bench seat interior. Maybe do some headlights and taillights. Then you'll probably even reccomend a better motor over the 'Nothing-Special' 180 upgrade i already put in there. Something like: https://www.professormotor.com/product-p/nsr3015.htm

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
I heard it was a good motor, over on another site a really talented builder suggested that one.

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
I used a 180 can motor like that in My Bruder Ram a Ninco NC2 they are out of production now the one you mentioned is one of the replacements. It's not super fast but it drives my Ram pick-up and pulls a trailer with my D5 on it and it weighs about 5 lbs and I'm using the same WPL gearbox

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Sweet, that sounds like it'll be more than plenty of motor for this little truck. It should atleast get me up toward the axle-snapping and upgrading to metal diff housings stage.
What size esc are you running for it? One should get me through this truck, and sounds like probably have enough for powering the Michigan Crane carrier.

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
It should be ok for that small a truck
I'm thinking the crane carrier is going to need more than a 180 can motor I used the plastic axle housing with metal innards and the cheap 30a esc https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3295...21ef1802dWOPRQ |

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
This truck is pretty light, only cab & bed are steel. (Toy safety in the 90s ment less of the rusty & jagged steel i seem to like.)
Realistically I'd really been thinking more like one of the 370 motor gearbox for the crane carrier, or adapting something that's gonna be way WAY too big...perfect. Plus a guy upgrading a couple of WPL rigs to Do Work might also unlock a couple of 'Bonus Trucks'...

I've down loaded a dual 370 mount for a WPL and a 550.. I want to experiment with them

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Thanks skeeter! I'm really happy with how it's coming along.
Bench seat, not sure about adding lights. I'd been kinda looking at some of the Steelie or Spoke style wheels, but none quite do it for me. The Jeep or Toyota FJ aren't too far off If a guy builds a dumptruck, it's kinda nice if the bed actuator motor is set up so ya can disconnect the Dump from ESC, plug in a battery pack and it drive the bed up for cab clearance.

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Ya ever take a model to an rc meet hoping to drive around on some roads, and move some crumb rubber?
...then after you've been over there a while, realize at some point you had borrowed the Rx and Escs to put in something else. Yep. Really smooth. I've been staring at the truck for years, trying to figure out what it is. Now i'm kinda leaning a little more 1926-32 instead of 1930s? Ford AA Mack BB / BC / BF / BG / BJ / BL REO FA From what i'm seeing, it's likely in the range of 1 ton to 1-1/2 ton payload, but could possibly be up to 8 tons?

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
I think it needs smaller tires and more "period" looking wheels...
check your email..... |

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Yeah jerry i know those wheels aren't very period, but they fit the lug pattern and the tire shop was willing to mount tires on them. It kept the diffs from dragging the ground.
I know you've mentioned WPL and Lego tires. I'm assumung your Street tread is Lego 62.4x20s, with Offroad tread being WPL sized? I don't think the attachments came through correctly with that email?

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Yeah the Lego's are my "street tire and the WPL "rock tire" (it's what they call it) is the off road, they are smaller and narrower than what you have on there now.
I'll check that email... |

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Trying out something Old, or New. Nice. I need to lower it more. It's already Spring-Under. Going to need to stiffen the leafs, longer eyes, or add a leaf. Probably do some lowering blocks also. But why are split-rims only a vintage thing? https://bangshift.com/general-news/v...heel-mounting/ My friend printed 2 Single wheels, then nuked the hot section of his printer trying to print a pair of dually rims. Turns out this truck can only run singles.

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Looks a lot better....just need a little paint green and black....
The WPL rock tires and a little smaller if you need to go that route.... I double up on the WPL springs and put the little plastic "helper" springs on... Worked in a garage as a kid... NEVER put air in a split rim unless it's in a cage.... If it does blow off you'll survive but you'll need clean clothes because it sounds like a bomb going off...right in your face |

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Thanks, I'm pretty happy with wheel size now. Fenders aren't as stuffed, and should be a lot easier to keep from rubbing with suspension travel.
Yeah, i know the split-rim wheels i work around have something like a 15psi (temperature-adjusted) window where you can change nitrogen pressure while it's installed on axle. If they're out of range on the chart, gotta vent it, pull the valve core, and send it out for overhaul. Green & Black might work. I'm not real sure on a color plan

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
To help lower the truck even more and bring up the spring rate, the spring eyes were stretched farther apart at frame attach points. One of the cheap wpl B first gen axle halves has broken, and the plastic spring spacers are falling apart. I should probably do some lowering blocks. Picked up the professor motor tuned 180 motor jerry suggested. Nsr 3015 King balanced monor 38,500 rpm 310g-cm torque. Their picker didn't seem to like my order-comments, or maybe they didn't feel good in their skills of an artist to Draw a Dragon? That jungle-website finally decided (after a couple tries) i could get some parts Delivered. So this gets (2each) 30a esc, and 6ch rx. Current Goal: have this ready to run, so it can just sit outside in the big car for the Toy Truck Show when i find out the "rc toy trucking" demo thing actually isn't *THIS* group, and i that can't play with them... Maybe try to terrorize some hallways anyway, get kicked out of the hotel.

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
Those wheels look a little more "period" ... and lowering it would help the look too I think those shackles make it sit up pretty high
I found these the other day... https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...yAdapt=glo2usa https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...yAdapt=glo2usa I think I might order one or two just to have on hand they look "handy" |

Re: 1930s dumptruck - Nylint
I agree, a shackle delete would be the easy way to lower the truck.
It should be fun watching the modern Hydro equipment trying to load crumb rubber into my truck. Maybe 1-2 scoops... Nice looking gearbox, i'm sure you'll find some really cool uses for that.
