Re: Steamer
Thanks. got the frame of the trailer made and I'm installing the dump screw drive. Made it a tandem ,tandem and not a transfer like I had hoped. To much work to make another box for the FWD. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

Re: Steamer
I never measured one but I would guess at 24 feet for an 8-axle transfer in Washington.

Re: Steamer
Jason. Great shot! That works out to 10 1/2" for scale and looks just right between the truck and trailer. I have all the brass tubing and now just have to get cutting.
Thanks Rob |

Here's a few more pictures of the trailer. Coupled the FWD on the front and it measures 63 in. front front to back.
Made up the reach and now have to solder it up and add the reach jack. More pictures of the screw drive. Thanks for looking. Rob |

Re: Steamer
Well I finally got more done on the trailer.
First picture is the carrier for the dump box. To make it roll better on the main frame I installed roller bearing with flanges. Frame in the travel position. Frame in the dump position. Short vid of it lifting, the first bit is just traveling along the frame before lifting. Thanks for looking Rob Last edited by steamer; 05-16-2011 at 01:14 AM. |

Re: Steamer
You Bet. Greg and Lou were here this afternoon and we put 25 lb. on it and it lifted no problem. I'm not sure how much the dump box full of dirt or sand will be, but I think it would probably be less and handle it fine.

Re: Steamer
Nice work on the reach Rob, the FWD looks great. In think you are going to have to learn to run the hoe, as the bumbs who run it now will be alittle rough on your shinny rig... LOL

Re: Steamer
That's quite the video. Those guys make it look way to easy!! Mine is not quite a transfer but it kinda looks like one. Next time around I'll build one all the way, and go for the two trailer version. Thanks to Steve, I have the high lift tailgate figured out.

Re: Steamer
The reach looks really good. What are you using for heat when soldering?

Re: Steamer
I just used a propane torch for it all. The tubing joints were all slip fit so I used resin core solder. As the pintle block had no attach points, just cut into the square tube, I silver soldered it for strength. Turned out to be quite strong but we'll see how strong it is, after first time I jack knife it.

Time to update some pictures. got some of the box built out of styrene.
Also decided to build the tailgate hinge from styrene and it turned out quite strong. Trailer in travel position. Trailer in dump position. FWD and trailer both with boxes up. Thanks for looking Rob |
