Hi steve-I have looked at these pictures a lot but I DO NOT understand what is the purpose of the "little pointy thingies" on the track rails. Please explain.

Tom , I assume you mean these ? they are the master link for taking the tracks apart on the bigger machines . 3rd pic is off a dressta showing it complete

I've heard they call that a zipper link? Thats what some logger friend told me, he could be full of it.

IDK Reg , master link right out of my TD12 parts book . PPL in different areas call the same thing a different name I even have that issue between 2 different parts houses take for instant , air pack or break chamber

Haha you are totally right Steve. My parents had a xmas party and we started talking about logging equipment old and new. My Dads buddy, who has worked in the bush running equipment for over forty years called them a zipper link. My friend thats my age and has been a heavyduty mechanic for fifteen years or more said that Cat called them something(I forget what but it was something special being Cat) and he had never heard of them being called a zipper link. Two different generations from the same place can't even agree. Too funny! Looks like a master link to me, just different.lol
