I have trucks with and without the coupler. They seem to work the same other than the pulling torque and slow movement abilities. No difference in battery draw that I have ever noticed. I did eliminate one of mine because of the new Behler motor differences.
If I'm not mistaken the gear on both units is the same. Possibly white? When I get home tonight I will send you a PM with a Wedico instruction page on the coupler. That should answer your questions. Good luck with your Wedico truck, post some pictures.
