Great minds must think alike, Perry - I'm building an 8x8 Globeliner, and these axles work just fine for it. Using stock Tamiya rims & tires, a stock rear axle is 7-1/8" wide. Mounting the same rims/tires on an RC Channel (narrow) axle, it is 7-3/8" wide. (Only 1/8" wider on either side, so it doesn't look any different).

The stock Tamiya (non-driven) front axle is 6-7/8" wide. I wasn't sure what rims/tires to use with the RC Channel (narrow) front axle. I tried mounting stock Tamiya tires on just the inner rim from the duals, (because that gives you the hex), and that was 6-1/2" wide. Then I tried using the Tamiya Super Single tires and hex-rims from the reefer trailer, and that was 7-5/8" wide. That was just a little too wide for me, and I also didn't like the look of the Super Single rim on the front.

So, here's what I ended up doing, (and I don't know how to do pictures, so I'll describe it as best I can). I used a front rim from the European trucks that Tamiya makes (the one that has the raised, flat hub). I cut away everything except the outer tire channel, and glued that to one of the inner dual rims. That gave me a rim that was wide enough to fit the Super Single tire, and when I mounted it to the axle, it was 7" wide. It is just the right width, and looks great.

I borrowed the idea for fitting Super Single wheels to the stock Tamiya dual wheels - you cut away 2/3 from the back of the inner dual rim, which leaves just the outer groove bolted to the stock outer rim. Now you can fit Super Single tires to it, and it fits the stock trailer axles - but now with a more American look to it. -Mike
