Hi Nick,
I went down to a local truck tyre service centre and told them I needed a old inner tube for my RC truck to make mud flaps and they had a dig around and gave me one for free. Cheers Cossett

You can get the same thickness black rubber sheet from McMaster-Carr if you can't get any from a local source.

Ah yes, McMaster Carr - so many things to buy there and I have. I bought some neprene rubber (can't recall the thickness but is was available in various thicknesses) off ebay years ago for making scale mudflaps.
