Default Custom tires technique question

Hey what's up? I was just thinking about a new technique to make home made tires; what if you took an equal diameter tire, heated it up till it's malleable-not liquified-and re pressed it into a new mold with the desired tread pattern. Would that work, or would heating the tire up de-sulfurize it? I was thinking the rubber would remain the same because it's not liquified, and that is what the heavy equipment tire companies do.
Let me know your opinions, thanks

I'm not sure if the method you describe will work. I think to get an answer you may have to experiment yourself. However, I do know that Tom (modelman) made his own tires for his mining truck.

I also remember (if my memory is correct) a guy on a different board made a Tatra 8x8 and created his own tires by CNC machining aluminum molds and using the rubber they use for retreading tires. Of course now I can't find that link but I'll keep looking. I think both methods are quite impressive and yielded nice results. Hope this helps...

I really hate that you can't go back and edit your own posts after a certain time. I understand the reasoning behind it, but still annoys me. Anyway, I got lucky and found that guys tire making molds thread. I'm assuming you don't speak Polish (like myself) so here it is via. google translate:

That's awesome, thanks! I love the link, very informative and just what I was looking for! However, I don't want to join another forum and I don't speak polish, but would like to know if the re treaded tire stuff is just old tires, or is it a special material?

I think it's a rubber that they use to do retreads. I believe it's not vulcanized yet but I'm not 100% positive. Just look into retreading, I guess. Sorry I don't know more about it...
