It's not something you see here very often on real trucks. I'm not sure what it's really needed for, I just try to build what I'm asked. It looks like something that would get bent or torn off on a 1:1 in this area but we don't have drop axles or any of that stuff either. Just good old tandem dump trucks....Most of which look well used within a very short time.lol

The spill plate is mostly used for asphalt when backed up to a paving machine,
preventing asphalt from flowing over the hopper in front of the paving machine when tipping. And it protect the rear end of the truck, mud flaps and lights. ![]() |

That makes sense. The last truck I noticed one on was dumping asphalt into a hopper on the paving machine. I see lots of trailers have them and I assumed it was to protect the goodies on the back since they are so flat on the rear panel. Tail lights right below the tailgate without protection not good one...
