Did Kalle tell you how many links in the Vario? (I don't want to crawl around in the dirt to count for myself, if at all possible

).

Depends greatly on the final price... if you can't get even close to cutting that 1st quote in half, it's not worth it to me just to have metal tracks for the sake of a scale appearance.
